Washington DC, the nation's capitol, and whether you are visiting or a local, it's one of the best places to be in the fall. With fall fun in mind, here is my list of 6 Things To Do This October In Washington DC:
1. Fall Harvest Festival at George Washington's Mount Vernon (October 21st)
Celebrate the crisp autumn season with 18th-century activities and demonstrations at the Farm at Mount Vernon! View demonstrations of 18th-century cooking, candle-making, spinning, textiles, and more. Also, make your way through a straw bale maze and get to meet General Washington. Tasha's Own will offer farm fresh products at the Farm, shop for fresh produce at your pleasure and convenience!
2. 2nd Annual Festival At The Festival At Halley Rise (October 14th)
Celebrate fall at the Farm at Halley Rise! From free kid-friendly scavenger hunts to farm tours, to bouquet making stands, there’s something for everyone. The activities at the farm include Spooky Scavenger Hunt, Pumpkin Painting Station, Farm Tours and Bouquet Making. The festival offers a great time for family and friends!
3. DC Wine Fest! Fall Edition (October 14th)
Enjoy a specially curated vino experience at Dock 5 at Union Market. The wine testing sessions will be multi-session, all day and all night long. There will be dark wines that appeal to the fall ambience. Go there for a great wine night with special charcuterie boards for each wine tasting session.
4. Silver Spring Holidays Crafts & Treats Fair @ Veterans Plaza (October 29th)
From arts & crafts vendors, to jewelry and baths and body products, from holiday decor to treats and desserts and much more, start the holiday shopping season at the Silver Spring Holiday Crafts & Treats! This Fall inspired event has something fun and exciting for everyone!
5. Hops & Harvest (October 7th)
The Hops & Harvest Festival seamlessly blends a diverse range of beverages, creating an exceptional experience for all attendees. Craft beer enthusiasts are treated to a wide array of breweries from the region, each showcasing their finest creations. From hoppy IPAs to smooth stouts and everything in between, the festival offers a journey through the intricate world of craft brewing. Enjoy this popular fall event with friends and family!
6. Visit a Dispensary or Use a Weed & Mushroom Delivery Service!
Cannabis and magic mushroom gifting are all the rage ever since local ballot initiatives I-71 and I-81 decriminalized the substances and made them available for sharing or giving away! DC now has myriad businesses operating openly as cannabis and mushroom dispensaries, serving the masses - usually requiring the consumer to purchase a sticker or bag to receive the requested "free" cannabis and magic mushrooms inside. Ordering is easier than ever! No medical card needed. Finding a good dispensary in DC is as easy as searching Googlemaps, or just click here for my favorite delivery service!
7. Plan a winter surf trip out of town!
As chillier whether inches in, you've got a perfect last minute chance to head for Assateague Island, Rehobeth, or Virginia Beach for a fall surf trip. Check water and air temps to make sure you're wearing a wetsuit when conditions demand it. If in Ocean City, MD, check with Malibu's Surf Shop for an easy and friendly rental, plus all the surf advice you may need. Really want to get away? California is always calling, and for those inclined, just ten minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the surf neighborhood of El Porto, California complete with it's own neighborhood surf shop less than eight hundred feet from the most reliable wave in the Los Angeles area! El Porto has two ocean-view neighborhood hotels (the Sea View Inn is exactly as the name suggests) as well as 9 locally-owned restaurants and 3 bars all within a three block walk from the waves. Stay on a Monday night for a Free Live Comedy Show at the Cantina at Pancho's Mexican Restaurant where well-known comedians from television and film are known to drop-in and perform unannounced.
